Biography:

Francisco Mata Rosas was born in México City in 1958. With degree in Sciences of the Communication his photographic job start in 1986. His photographic work has been published in the american newspapers: “The New York Times” & “L.A.. Times”; “The Press” in Canada, and in the mexican newspapers “La Jornada”, “Milenio” & “Reforma”. Also, his work has published in the magazines: “The Independent Magazine” and “Photography” of London, England; “El Paseante” in Spain.

His photographies has been exposed in: Mexico Stad, Koninklijk Instituut Voor Tropen in Amsterdam, Holland 1992; Mexican Photographers, Festival Book in Frankfurt, Germany 1992; Mexican Cultural Center in Paris and the FNAC in 1993; Light Factory in Louisiana, U.S. 1993; Center of the Image and the Subway in México City, 1994,1995 and 1996. Black Butterfly, Images of Death from Mexico in Aberdeen Art Gallery, Scotland, October and November of 1995, Kobe Aid Fund, world photo art exhibition & auction, in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan January-March of 1996, Month of the photography in Paris France 1996, Photo Spain 2000. Instituto Cervantes, London, England, 2002.

Was invited in world-wide project " 24 hours in Cyberspace ", February of 1996, as one of the 150 photojournalists selected in the world.

Mata Rosas has obtained the following awards:


Prize of acquisition in the Biennial of Mexican Photography, 1988.
Prize of Honor in the Aid of the Bicentennial of the French Revolution, 1989.
Scholarship of Creative Young people of FONCA, 1989 (Mexico).
Annual Third Mother Jones, 1993.
Premio of coinvestment of FONCA, 1994.
Fuji prize in 1996 and Great Prize in 1997 of the Internet Magazine in Japan

He belongs to the “The National Sistem of Creators” since 2000 in México. There are images hers in more than a twenty books. On the other hand, he has been participating as speaker in most of the encounter of photography in México. At the moment, two books with his work are in editing process: “Subway of the Mexico City” and “Holly Festivites in the Mexico City”. His work is printing in around five homepages in internet.
