Biography:

Born and raised on a Kibbutz by American parents. After serving three years in the Israeli Navy, worked on a fishing village in the Red sea as a sharks hunter.

A professional filmmaker since 1982. Speaks fluent Hebrew and English.

Hypnotic Hell is invited to the International Taiwan Documentary Film Festival.

Directing Dream - an experimental film regarding associations.
Completion the script of The Shell - a 52 min. TV drama.
Directing Another Place - a documentary concerning guarding one's self.

1997

Hypnotic Hell - a 50 min. documentary film, shot in Bombay, India, is invited to Idfa - Amsterdam International Documentary Film festival.
Distribution deal is signed between Kovler and Jane Balfour Films, Who acquires international distribution rights of Hypnotic Hell
Production grant from The Fund for Original TV Films for Another Place - a documentary, Israeli-French co-production.
The Israeli Film Institute commissions It's Right to Die for My Country - a documentary concerning the phenomena of suicide for the sake of an ideal.
Invitation by UK ch.4 and the British Film Institute to submit a proposal for Dressed to Kill - a production of 12 original short fiction films directed by chosen directors internationally.
Editing of Border - a film by Michal Rovner, commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and of Mutual Interest, commissioned By the Tate Gallery in London.
Directing The Race - a film concerning Bedouins life in Sinai.

1996

Recipient of a British Council Award to undertake advance film studies in the UK. Participation in 'Producing a low-Budget Feature Film', and 'Multi-Camera Drama Directing' courses, held at the National Film School in England.
Invitation by the Israeli Film Institute to establish and develop directing workshops in Israel.
Development grant from The Israeli Fund for Quality Films for
The Night has a Thousand Eyes - a feature film.
It's Right to Die for My Country - a documentary, is considered by UK Ch.4 for production.
Editing of Chapter 58/4 and Yasmin - Winner of 1st prize at the Jerusalem Film Festival.
Establishment of the Cinema Society for screening quality 16 mm films.
Directing 3 commercials for Telegraph, a new business journal, broadcasted by Israel's Ch.2
Conducting directing classes at Gymnasia Hertzlia, Tel-Aviv.
Coffee a short film, is accepted by the 1996 upsala, Rio de Janeiro, Bombay and the Haifa international Film Festivals.

1995

Completion of script writing, editing and directing two short films: Midlife Crisis and Coffee (shot on 35 mm). Both films are edited entirely on the Avid editing system, including a 35 mm film version and final sound design and mix.
Midlife Crisis is accepted for screening at the prestigious Jerusalem Film Festival, Short Film Category.
Nomination as Jury member for the Tel-Aviv Gadi Dantzig Awards Competition, commercials category.
Editing of Istiklal - 1st prize, Jerusalem Film Festival.

1994

Directing commercials for Israel's ch.2: Philipshave, Orlane, Arad Music Festival, Elite coffee and more.
Editing commercials: Elite Turkish coffee, 'international Bank', Strauss 'Fantasia' ice cream.
Hocus Focus Films - a film production company targeted to initiate fiction and documentary film projects is born. The company is established and owned by micha Kovler.

1993

Nazdrovia a 25 min. Fiction film written and directed by Kovler is screened commercially at the Tel-Aviv cinematheque, and purchased by Israel's Ch. 1.
Nazdrovia is nominated for final selection by the Tokyo international Film Festival followed by an invitation from the Japanese government to participate in the festival. Festivals: Tokyo, Jerusalem and Bombay International Film Festivals.
Sales: 'Documedia International' UK - worldwide distribution, Keshet Broadcasting Co. Ch.2, Israel. Germany ZDF.
Editing and directing a 'Reebak-line' commercial for Israel's Ch. 2.

1991/2

Writing producing and directing Nazdrovia - a 25 Min. 16mm fiction film debut, shot on location, 14 days, in Israel.
Nazdrovia, self funded, is chosen to open the Israeli Short Films screenings at the 1992 Haifa Film Festival.

1990

Returning to Israel.
Nomination as Jury member at the New York City Monitor Awards Competition, editing category.


1989

Co-editing an NBC special - a children's story directed by Mr. Mark Sotnik and narrated by Mr. Jack Nicholson and Ms. Glen Close. Mr. Bobby McFerry scored the music.

1988

Free-lance editor in New York City.
Chosen to edit an NBC one hour thanksgiving special, with host Mr. Jack Paar, followed by editing of an AT&T Super ball's commercial (estimated viewing of 120 million people).

1985-7

Studies of computerized editing and special effects at Editel, New York City. Senior editor, Palace Productions Center, NYC.

1984

Lecturing at Berki Pata Humphries Studios - an affiliate of Tel-Aviv university, film and video editing department.

1982-3

Beginning of film career, first as an assistant cameraman and later as a senior editor for Israel's most successful production company - Migvan Productions ltd., editing documentaries, dramas, commercials and music videos.
