ADVICE TO A REFUGEE'S DAUGHTER - Poetry

Name: Rukshana Smith
Nationality: British
Location: Barnet, Herts - England
Profession: Writer

Education:
Middlesex University

Biography:

I'm a Londoner and write novels, articles, poems, reviews, and short stories. I've written three works of teenage fiction, SUMITRA'S STORY, RAINBOWS OFTHE GUTTER, SALT ON THE SNOW, and produced English Language Readers for the Chinese market. My latest book, THE POET WHO SOLD TIME, is available from Amazon. As the daughter of refugees from Eastern Europe, my novels tend to deal with exile and the immigrant experience.

I've taught English as a Foreign Language in Russia, Ukraine, France and Spain, and for several years in north London. I've had many jobs including washing up, acting, Art Therapist in a Psychiatric Unit and Music Therapist in a Day Centre. I now work for the British Council as a Mentor for Creative Writing.

I love music and playing instruments. I sing with a Bulgarian choir, dance with a Balkan folkgroup, and am a member of the British organisation for poets, Exiled Writers Ink!
